GAISF’s DIGITAL REVOLUTION BEGINS AS FIG LAUNCHES GYMNASTICS.SPORT

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has become the first International Federation to join GAISF’s .sport extension programme by launching its new website gymnastics.sport. FIG’s new domain portfolio, which has been delivered by GAISF, will provide FIG with a comprehensive range of domain names that can be used for their various national federations, disciplines, events, and even athletes. Examples of these would include rhythmic-gymnastics.sport, trampoline.sport, and parkour.sport.

In an increasingly complex, crowded and often confusing cyberspace environment, owning a domain from GAISF, which has also adopted the .sport suffix, helps by instantly identifying an organisation or individual as a recognised, credible and trusted member of the global sports family.

The .sport initiative is a programme to support International Federations (IFs) with a recognised and protected domain, making them more visible in an internet search and highlighting their position as a global leader in their sport. Each IF will acquire a portfolio that can include a number of domains, providing information for fans in more than 25 different languages.

Having an identifiable domain such as .sport gives all federations that choose to opt in to the initiative an unmistakable association with the sport ecosystem, as well as the opportunity to adopt a fresh and attractive digital brand that is easy discoverable by fans and other stakeholders. Governing bodies, athletes, clubs, event organisers, media/publishers, as well as commercial brands that are associated with and reflect the values of sport can all apply for a .sport domain.

Following the launch of FIG’s new site, Secretary General Nicolas Buompane said:

This is a great opportunity to launch our new online platform, on a domain name which perfectly illustrates our commitment to evolving in the digital age. FIG is, and always has been a pioneer, and we are once again proving that with gymnastics.sport.

The growth of our digital footprint through our new site will not only help us to provide a world-class service to our dedicated global fans, but also improve our ability to communicate effectively, ensuring they remain up to date with everything that is going on in the world of gymnastics.

Thanks to the portfolio approach that was delivered by GAISF, we will activate many more portals with a .sport signature, for our multiple disciplines and across every major language.

GAISF has been driving the .sport initiative on behalf of all International Federations, and will help support its Members in their applications for a portfolio as well as managing domains.

GAISF President Patrick Baumann said that the role of .sport could change the digital landscape for sport:

I am delighted that FIG has committed to joining the revolution as a Pioneer, and I am confident that many other Federations, as well as event organisers, media outlets and commercial brands will also follow suit.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our Members to become leaders in the evolution of digital sport. Our objective is to develop a safe and trusted space, controlled for the good of sport. We will develop a strong and united ecosystem that truly benefits GAISF Members, our stakeholders and fans all over the world.
